Robert Rock wins his second Farmfoods British Par 3
By Kiran Bedder-Patel
The dust has finally settled on what has been one of the most historic years yet, at the Farmfoods British Par 3.
The 90th year anniversary did not disappoint with 2001 winner, Robert Rock taking home the first-place prize of €50,000 after edging both Jarmo Sandelin and Matt Court respectively with a score of 8 under par.
Rock, who won this tournament exactly 22 years ago, said to Champions UK (Plc) : “I hit two really good shots in the first few holes and then had a few tap-in birdies, so that was less stress on my putting, which hasn’t always been reliable.
“Then I sort of plodded my way along with a mix of pars and a couple of acceptable bogeys
“As the game gives you the things you sometimes don’t want, I faced a pretty tricky chip to get up and down, so I realised over that chip that I haven’t been practicing my chip shots, so I sort of just hit it pretty quick and hoped for the best and thankfully it turned out lovely.”
Rock’s maiden win wasn’t the only treat fans got to see as David Shacklady managed to get a hole-in-one on the 2nd hole, whilst a certain Brian McFadden found himself caddying for our winner, much to the fans’ delight.
“He was just carrying my bag, but he was relaxing.” Rock added.
“He loves his golf and I know he played this morning and offered to caddy this afternoon which was nice. He was really good as he kept an eye on the score but also let me do my thing, so he was great actually.”
Rock was also part of the winning team event as himself and Lee Godfrey scored a 14 under par to secure first place.
