Senior London hire signals expansion at growing construction consultancy

LEADING multi-disciplinary construction and property consultancy firm, EDGE, has further expanded its team following three key senior appointments to its London, Leeds and national healthcare teams.

Collectively, the three appointments bring more than seven decades of professional experience to the team. Marc Chapman has been appointed at director level as national head of building surveying, Paula Atkin as healthcare estates lead, and Sophie Barrow joins as associate director.

Marc Chapman brings an impressive range of UK and international expertise from some 35 years in the construction and property industry. His career has covered roles including building surveyor, project manager, employer’s agent, contract administrator for a range of JCT, NEC and bespoke contract and procurement types. His technical due diligence and independent certifier roles include projects, portfolios and assets both at home and internationally.

With a wealth of experience in establishing strategic building surveying services across the UK, he said: “I’m at a stage in my career where I want to use my experience to create a meaningful impact – both in terms of business growth and contributing to the development of the next generation. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in at EDGE and helping solidify the firm’s reputation nationally, as the ‘go-to’ construction and property consultancy.

“As a relatively young but rapidly growing company, the passion for work and new projects is palpable and this enthusiasm is recognised by clients, who enjoy working with such a skilled, dynamic and genuine team – I’m really excited to be a part of it.”

EDGE’s previous and existing client base within the region includes the University of Greenwich, Godwin Developments, Telereal Trillium, Lambeth and Harrow Councils, and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Elsewhere, Paula Atkin has been appointed as the healthcare estates lead at EDGE following 22 years working within the NHS. Her experience comes from both clinical and estate roles, most recently as senior estates advisor within NHSE Capital and Commercial Team and as part of the National Capital Assurance Team.

Having helped to assure a series of business cases that unlocked transformational capital projects across the NHS estate, Paula will add valuable specialised healthcare insight to EDGE and will support in offering business case facilitation, healthcare planning, and estate strategy.

Sophie Barrow joins EDGE’s Leeds office as an associate director and will support the national cost management service across the business. Having been previously employed at an established consultancy for 15 years, Sophie has gained expertise in key account management, extensive stakeholder engagement and guiding clients through a project and the processes that follow, working with a number of clients in the higher education and leisure sectors.

Nick Phelan, director at EDGE, added: “We’re proud to announce the appointment of Marc, Paula and Sophie, who each bring varied expertise to EDGE, and I’m looking forward to watching them build upon and sustain the continued growth of the business from our Leeds office and beyond.

“The appointments are symptomatic in the success of our London, Leeds and healthcare teams as key areas for our business. Above all, they demonstrate our commitment to providing clients with a holistic, high quality service offering that is second to none, further establishing our credentials as cost management, project management, advisory and building and digital surveying specialists.”
