The Brook and Badger: A new pub with traditional values

The Brook and Badger is a new gastropub located at 224 Munster Road, Fulham. The creation of experienced publican Eamonn Manson, (of former Sands End, Brown Cow and Cross Keys success) and his long term pal, the pop art dealer Adrian Palengat, The Brook and Badger is sibling to the award winning Brook House also in Fulham and a welcome addition to the growing Brook family.

A pub with benefits, The Brook and Badger is centred on all the core sentiments of a modern day British pub; great food, drink and a warm welcome but with the added perks of a chic design, comfortable seating and sound booms – this is a place to eat, drink, be comfortable and be heard.

A standalone building The Brook and Badger exudes charm courtesy of its foliaged exterior and verdant perimeter complete with outside seating which creates a tranquil setting within the bustling Munster Road.

The entrance to the pub takes you directly into the bar area where green leather tub chairs border wooden tables and the panelled wooden bar ahead of you is surrounded with comfortable leather-clad bar stools. Walk through the archway to the dining room and wooden tables in varying shapes and sizes complete with bistro-style wooden chairs create a charming and relaxed space. Glass double doors at the back of the room offer a transparent view into the kitchen beyond, offering affirmation that good food is central to any Brook and Badger experience.

Heading up the kitchen is chef James Scott who in tandem with Eamonn has created a menu that is not confined to any particular nationality, instead it offers a simple selection of dishes which combine exciting flavours with seasonal ingredients. Nibbles to enjoy with your pre-dinner drinks include anchovies on toast or pumpkin hummus, whilst starters range from the likes of sea bream ceviche, or a perfectly light whipped ricotta. Mains include a succinct selection of meat or fish dishes such as whole plaice with dill butter and lemon or pork chop with creamed sprouts, cranberries, chestnuts, bacon. A handful of pub classics will never leave the menu, and as you would expect, include the likes of an elevated hanger steak with chimichurri and fries as well as battered cod and chips and a chicken and mushroom pie. Sweet finishes are proving popular with seasonal crumble, and sticky toffee pudding being the current bestsellers.

A well-stocked bar and notable wine cellar means all thirsts can be quenched. Under the charming leadership of General Manager, Kyle Turner, his 24 years working in the industry (12 of which with Eamonn) ensures that all demands are met, courtesy of his surprise and delight approach, to any customers that come through the door.

A pub worth travelling to whilst also serving its grateful Fulham community – The Brook and Badger is in a league of its own. Cleverly balancing the desire to offer a drinking spot as well as a dining experience, it’s a place to visit as often as you feel like, safe in the knowledge that a warm welcome and memorable experience awaits.
