The Good Oak – A Beloved Notting Hill Favourite Reimagined for a New Era

The Good Oak, formerly known simply as The Oak, has unveiled its much-anticipated transformation, setting a new standard for pubs in Notting Hill. The new chapter for The Good Oak is being led by Steven Shamoon holding an exciting vision: to breathe new life into this iconic building while preserving its charm. Recognising the potential of its soaring double-height ceilings, original wood-fired pizza oven, and prime West London location.

The food and beverage programme, overseen by Alex Ghalleb (of Five Graces), has been curated by celebrated chef Alex Craciun, who joins The Good Oak as Executive Chef. Craciun brings an LA-inspired Italian menu to the table, lighter and brighter than its New York counterparts, yet rooted in classic comfort. Highlights include innovative bar snacks like Chicken Parm Bites, the signature TGO Hot Dog, and the Scotch Meatball, a playful nod to the classic Scotch egg, as well as Josper cooked baby chicken and Ribeye Steak, the much loved pizza dough has stayed the same, with some newly improved produce.

Interior design studio Alix Gét has been enlisted to reimagine the space with a ‘home away from home’ ethos. Guests will still recognise the familiar energy of The Oak yet with refreshed plush furnishings, layered décor, and thoughtful details bringing warmth, comfort, and style in equal measure. At the heart of the new layout is a purpose-built central bar, restoring a more traditional pub feel while seamlessly blending with premium touches. Alix custom designed the furniture and elegant banquette seating, made by Andrew Thornton, The Good Oak is as inviting for a casual pint as it is for a crafted martini – a space to unwind, and feel at home.

Upstairs, Above at The Good Oak offers a versatile space where community takes centre stage. From cocktails to live music, DJs, and even the occasional backgammon tournament, the space is anchored by a one-of-a-kind piano designed by artist David King Reuben. It’s a lively, eclectic setting, made for connection, creativity, and celebration. The Good Oak’s dual space allows for a dinner to progress into cocktails and conversation into the evening at Above.

For Shamoon, this project is about community. “I saw nightlife change in London,” he explains. “There’s more emphasis on community, conversation, and comfort. I wanted to create a place where people feel just as comfortable popping in for 15 minutes as they do staying for six hours, a second home where you can connect, eat incredible food, and feel completely at ease.”

The Good Oak is now open and ready to welcome both prior regulars and new friends to discover its revitalised spirit. Whether for an after-work drink, weekend brunch, or late-night gathering, it’s set to become a new cornerstone of Notting Hill life.
