The Thames Tax: Homes with a river view cost the most in London

The research, conducted by aluminium door and window manufacturer Origin, found that properties with a view in London are the most expensive in the UK, costing an average of £2,729,905 – over three times more expensive than the UK average (£869,986).

Views of the River Thames command the highest asking price in London, at an average of £3,520,790. This is followed by skyline vistas, which cost Londoners £2,070,833.

Berkshire is the second most expensive place to buy a home with a view in the UK. With a picturesque landscape, including the River Thames valley and the North Wessex Downs, buyers in the area can expect to pay £1,564,000 for a country home.

Gloucestershire is next, with countryside boltholes in the capital of the Cotswolds coming with an average price tag of £1,169,000.

The cheapest place to buy a home with a view is Lancashire, with seafront properties in Blackpool, countryside abodes in Rossendale, and city-pads in Lancaster costing an average of just £295,496. Yorkshire is the second most affordable, followed by Essex.

Victoria Brocklesby, COO at Origin, comments: “We’re so fortunate to be surrounded by incredible scenery in the UK, from striking city skylines to rolling countryside hills and beautiful beaches. Our research demonstrates just how valuable views are to homeowners, with homes with a view in the capital commanding an asking price of over five times more than almost identical properties without one.

“We’ve been helping homeowners realise the potential of their surroundings for over 20 years and know how much difference this can make to a property, whether someone’s getting ready to sell or simply wants to get more joy from their home. From letting the outdoors in with statement glazing, to framing landscapes with bold colour choices, investing in changes that accentuate views can transform the look and feel of an entire home – and the price tag it commands.”
