Pop-soul artist Will Brown brought a special performance of his latest single Welcome To Brownsville to London, alongside 50 members of Rock Choir, the UK’s award-winning contemporary choir experience, in the Old Waiting Room at Peckham Rye Train Station.
The performance reflects many of the themes at the heart of Welcome To Brownsville as well as Rock Choir’s core message: belonging, emotional openness, mutual support and the importance of community during difficult times.
Founded in 2005 by musician Caroline Redman Lusher MBE, Rock Choir brings together over 33,000 members across the country. Widely regarded as the world’s largest contemporary choir, it is known for its large-scale performances, charity fundraising and strong focus on community and wellbeing. Beyond singing, Rock Choir promotes confidence, friendship and the mental health benefits of coming together through music.
Talking about Welcome To Brownsville, Will said “Brownsville imagines a space where vulnerability is met without judgement and growth is encouraged. I always tell people Brownsville imagines a world led by love, truly inclusive, open and grounded in respect for every human story.”
Speaking about what Rock Choir means to them, one member shared “For a couple of hours each week, I can stop thinking about everything and just sing. As someone who has worked in mental health for most of my career, I firmly believe doctors should be socially prescribing choirs. There is something magical that happens when hundreds of people breathe, laugh and sing together.
