Teachers, firefighters and plumbers amongst global adventurers set to unite at launch of Clipper Round the World Yacht Race
This Saturday (17 May) over 400 Race Crew from across the globe will gather in Portsmouth, UK as the teams they will race across the world with are revealed for the very first time.
The only event of its kind, the Clipper Race trains non-professional sailors to race across the world’s toughest oceans. Each team of up to 22 crew is led by a professional Skipper and First Mate, and it is at this launch event that Race Crew will find out who they have been matched with.
Conditions faced by Race Crew on the 2023-24 edition
These people, from everyday backgrounds, will take on some of the fiercest conditions Mother Nature can throw at you as they race 40,000nm on one of ten stripped back racing yachts.
Some of the global adventurers joining this year’s crew include:
Mother and Daughter, Nathalie Faure-Beaulieu, 60, living in London and Nina Faure-Beaulieu, 28, living in Cape Town who will be taking on Leg 2 together
Father and Daughter, Marc Dutilloy, 68 from New Zealand, and Adele Dutilloy, 34, living on the Solomon Islands. Marc will join Adele for Leg 6 as she takes on the full circumnavigation
Bob Brown, 61, Plumber, Leicestershire, circumnavigator
Ruby Thornton, 26, Teacher, Canada, circumnavigator
Best friends Gabriel Firmo, 46, Brazil and Marcello Cortez, 47, Brazil who will take on Leg 6 together
Husband and wife, Jan Judge, 60 and Pete Judge, 59, both from Western Australia will complete Leg 1 and 4 together
Reggie Acosta, 53, Designer, from Hawaii, taking on Leg 6
Jake Fernandez, 35, Firefighter, from Chicago, taking on Leg 3 and 6
Thomas Roy, 17, Student from Southampton Thomas will be the youngest circumnavigator to take on this race
