KT Tunstall announced as headline act at International Busking Day in Wembley Park

Acclaimed singer-songwriter and musician KT Tunstall was last week announced as the headline act at International Busking Day in Wembley Park on Saturday 20 July 2019.  KT Tunstall will headline the world’s largest celebration of street performance, with over 50 artists showcasing their talent across five stages of free music and entertainment.

Since scoring a worldwide smash with her debut album Eye To The Telescope in 2004, KT Tunstall has remained at the forefront of UK singer-songwriter talent.  Over the next decade, KT has released further critically-acclaimed albums with over 5 million record sales worldwide, won a Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist in 2006 and an Ivor Novello Best Song award for her huge, self-penned hit Suddenly I See. Further nominations include Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards, Album of the Year at Mercury Prize and two World Music Awards. With a new album – WAX – out now, KT is playing at festivals all over the UK during summer 2019 as well as live dates in China, Japan and the US.

Having started out as a busker myself, I’ve always felt it has the potential to play an important part of finding your way into life as a vocational musician.”

International Busking Day is a celebration of busking and street acts, created and managed by Busk in London, and supported by the Mayor of London. The day-long event from 12.00-20.00 will feature performances by both international and home-grown busking talent. For 2019, the entertainment will take place across Wembley Park, with locations including the Main Stage on Olympic Way; Market Square Stage showcasing the best in rising talent; the Street Performance Stage; LDO stage, where visitors can listen in on amazing acts as they shop or grab a bite to eat, and the Community Stage hosted by The Yellow at the top of Wembley Park Boulevard.  There will be performances at Boxpark Wembley throughout the day and into the night, with Boxpark hosting the official after festival party from 8.30pm.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: I’m delighted that Busk in London is bringing International Busking Day back to Wembley Park. Our capital is renowned for its vibrant and diverse busking scene, so it’s great that such talented artists will be entertaining the local community across five stages. It’s a wonderful example of bringing culture to the doorsteps of Londoners, ahead of Brent’s year as London Borough of Culture.

Confirmed acts for this year’s event include indie rock band and No. 2 UK chart-toppers The Noisettes; singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hattie Briggs; folk pop singer-songwriterLucy May Walker; singer-songwriter Sherika Sherard; multi award-winning‚ indie pop & rock artist Natalie Shay; musician and singer-songwriter Josh Greaves; singer-songwriter Robbie Boyd; and performer Bethzienna Williams, finalist on this year’s The Voice. Taking the Boxpark stage at 10.30pm, Boxpark Wembley’s after-festival headliner is Children of Zeus, a soul project from two of Manchester’s most respected artists – DJ, MC and beatmaker Konny Kon, and soul singer Tyler Daley.

The International Busking Day acts will be introduced by two presenters Capital Radio’s Sarah Story and Kiss FM’s Swarzy MaCaly over the course of the day.
