BARRATT LONDON SUPPORTS FOODBANK AMID FOOD POVERTY RISES

Amidst the cost-of-living crisis, foodbanks are on the front line, with a record number of households across the UK using them for the first time. Independent Food Aid Network has found that if demand was to rise further, organisations will have to reduce the level of support they can provide or turn people away[1]. In response to this, Barratt London recently provided a donation of £22,000 to Colindale Foodbank, located near the housebuilder’s Ridgeway Views development, to support locals in the area who require its much-needed service.

At a time when stocks are very low, due to the high numbers accessing the service, the donation will allow the foodbank, based in Trinity Church on Avion Crescent, to purchase essential food items and fund related projects that serve the most vulnerable in the local community.

Pat Mansfield, Manager at Colindale Foodbank, comments: “Since last year, the demand from those making use of our service has doubled, with many families using our foodbank for the first time as they struggle to make ends meet. We were once able to rely on donations from households but as everyone experiences the financial squeeze larger donations, like this one from Barratt London, have become essential.”

Steve Thompson, Managing Director for Barratt East London, who attended the cheque handover, said: “During a challenging time for households across the UK, it’s been great to be able to support the invaluable work done by Colindale Foodbank. With all our developments across London, we focus on nurturing a local community, so it’s important that we support those most vulnerable in these neighbourhoods wherever we can.”
