Children from Aragon Primary School in Morden put on hi-vis jackets and had a tour of Bellway’s nearby Cavendish Grove development in Raynes Park in a trip organised to support the science curriculum.
Bellway hosted 90 pupils from three Year 3 classes at the school to the site. They investigated the various house designs in the sales office, were shown around a showhome, and learned about the different materials that go into building a house.

The children also saw how high a forklift can reach, watched a digger in action and found out how stones and rocks are essential to everyday life and the homes we all live in.
One of the children said later: “This has been the best trip ever. I feel very special that I’ve been able to experience and learn about how a house is built.”
Bellway Southern Counties Sales Manager Daniel Whiley showed the children the showhome and explained to them about how different rocks make up the materials used for the kitchen worktops and garden patio, to tie in with the project on rocks that the children are working on.

Senior Site Manager Paul Minnican and his team showcased a range of building materials, discussed the basic principles of building homes and closed part of the construction site to let the children safely view the forklift and excavator in action.
Assistant Headteacher Rob Myers said: “We are so pleased that Bellway and the Cavendish Grove development were able to provide such a positive opportunity and bringing the Year 3 science curriculum about rocks, to life. This is something that we could not facilitate within the school classroom.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Dan. It has made such a positive impact to the children’s education, through their excellent delivery of hands-on activities, which I am sure will stay with the children for many years to come.
“As a school, we continually strive to build and maintain strong links with local businesses and organisations as these partnerships help bring real-world learning into the classroom, offer the children insights into future career paths, and foster a sense of pride. Thank you to all involved at Bellway, in particular Dan, for providing such valuable learning experiences.”
The hi-vis vests the children wore for the visits were donated to the school for use on future excursions, while each of the pupils was given a goodie bag of gifts including a squishy ‘hard hat’, pencils and a keyring.
Daniel Whiley said: “By showing the children what goes into creating homes they learn a little more about the world around them.
“It is really important to us to be part of the community and we were very happy to support the school with an informative and different day out. Our team at Cavendish Grove were delighted to meet the children and show them around.”
Bellway is building 107 new homes at Cavendish Grove, off Meadowview Road. For more information about the development, visit https://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/southern-counties/cavendish-grove.
