The charm of the Côte d’Azur comes to Mayfair this summer as Bar Antoine at Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane unveils pétanque on its terrace. Bringing the relaxed ritual of French apéro culture to the heart of the city, expect long afternoons of cocktails, grazing plates and leisurely rounds played beneath the London sun.
A traditional pastime across southern France, pétanque sees players compete to land metal boules closest to a small target ball. As London’s appetite for social sport continues to grow, consider pétanque your new padel – slower, more relaxed and infinitely more chic – and at Bar Antoine, the experience is built around creative cocktails, summer socialising and lingering for just one more round.
Whether stepping up for a game or spectating from the sideline, enjoy cocktails from the recently launched Savoir-Boire menu (translated to the ‘art of drinking well’), developed by Bar Manager Leon Gasco under the direction of the world’s most Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alléno.
Inspired by the flavours of France’s bistros, cafés and boulangeries, signature serves include the Croissant Old Fashioned; Cornichon Martini; Peach & Mustard Margarita; and the Fig-Affair Paloma topped with a Comté tuille crisp, alongside classic apéro-led expressions such as Pastis and Suze Tonic.
The experience is anchored by a menu of elevated bar snacks with a French twist such as Carabineros prawn toast; a classic Pissaladière with caramelised onions, olives and anchovies; the ‘Croque-Antoine’ and The CFC – Bar Antoine’s indulgent take on caviar fried chicken. There’s also a rotating selection of artisan French cheese and charcuterie boards.
With boules rolling, cocktails flowing and the terrace channelling the easy glamour of a chic French summer, Bar Antoine offers one of Mayfair’s most transportive terraces this season. Santé!
