Celebrate St. David’s Day in London this week: Welsh food & drink market in Spitalfields

To celebrate St David’s Day, this weekend (2-3 March) Lamb Street in Spitalfields, East London, will transform into a Welsh food and drink market. An array of Welsh businesses are gathering on Lamb Street for the first time to spread gastronomical joy with their produce, drinks, famous Welsh cakes and award-winning charcuterie. Visitors can also enjoy free tastings and live cooking demonstrations from a Welsh food and drink specialist and TV cook Nerys Howell, as well as choir performances.

St. David’s Day, or the feast of Saint David, is a celebration of Welsh heritage and culture. Visitors are able to sample traditional Welsh cuisine at the market, hosted by TV cook Nerys Howell, with highlights including: Rachel’s Organic yogurt and Crwst granola (10am), Parsons and Selwyn’s laverbread eggs and PGI Carmarthen Ham wafers garnished with Pembrokeshire Beachfood Welsh man’s caviar (11am), traditional PGI Welsh Lamb ‘Cawl (12:30pm), warm Welsh cakes with Radnor Preserve jams (2pm) and a selection of Blaenafon cheeses (3:30pm).

The Welsh food and drink traders on Lamb Street include:

Aber Falls Distillery; the first whisky distillery in Wales in over 100 years
Alfie’s Coffee Company; an award-winning coffee company, with beans roasted in Wales
Carmarthen Deli by Albert Rees; a family business offering Carmarthen Ham, meat, and deli products
Cawl & Co; offering delicious cawl, a traditional Welsh broth
Cwmfarm Charcuterie Products; famous for their award-winning Welsh salami made in little village of Ystradgynlais, South Wales
Drop Bear Beer Co; alcohol-free beer that is also carbon neutral, vegan and gluten-free
Grounds for Good; a sustainable wellness brand utilising reused coffee grounds in all their products
Rachel’s Organic; selling organic yogurt made in West Wales, with three generations part of the company
Radnor Preserves; a winner of over 65 awards across their wide range of preserves
The Blaenafon Cheddar Co; a family-run cheese company
The Rogue Welsh Cake Company; a family-run business, selling Welsh cakes with a twist

Visitors will also be delighted with choir performances by The Gwalia Male Choir over the weekend. Taking place on Bishops Square twice a day (12:20pm & 12:55pm), the performances are a must-hear for all music lovers.
