COMMONWEALTH YOUTH VOLUNTEERS JOIN 10TH ANNIVERSARY WOOLWICH CARNIVAL CELEBRATIONS

Trustees from the Commonwealth Bond (CB), together with a group of young volunteers in national dress from the Commonwealth Secretariat, will parade the Commonwealth Peace Flag at the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the Annual Woolwich Carnival on Saturday, 13th September. The vibrant group, to be joined by Professor Luis Franceschi, Commonwealth Assistant Secretary-General, will travel from Westminster Pier on an Uber Boat by Thames Clippers to the Woolwich Royal Arsenal Pier. After a lunch reception hosted by the CB, they will join other participating groups in the lively Carnival Parade, many also from the wide Commonwealth family of nations.

As part of the celebrations, a preview of paintings by talented teenage Commonwealth artist, Sara Adoley Quaye from Accra, Ghana will be on display at the Coopers’ Studio in the Woolwich Works centre. A recipient of Bronze and Silver Awards in the Commonwealth Essay Competition, Adoley (15) credits recently appointed Ghanian Commonwealth Secretary-General, Hon. Shirley Botchway, as a source of inspiration to her.

Royal Arsenal Woolwich is the location of the proposed New Commonwealth Quarter (NCG) at Woolwich, Greenwich. The Commonwealth Bond, a registered UK charity supported by Commonwealth backers, is behind the establishment of this inclusive and vibrant new quarter for the modern Commonwealth. With convenient transport links on its doorstep, including the Woolwich Station on the Elizabeth Line, the NCQ replaces the functions of the former Commonwealth Institute in London with modern facilities for cultural, artistic and commercial activities and aims to provide a focus for the six million British citizens of Commonwealth descent, whose cultural diversity is well represented in Greenwich.
