Developer helps build a love for reading at Newark primary school with World Book Day donation

In celebration of World Book Day (Thursday 5th March), Compendium Living donated £100 worth of National Book Tokens to a primary school in Newark, ahead of its delivery of the Yorke Drive Regeneration Project.

Bishop Alexander L.E.A.D. Academy, which is just a few minutes away from the Yorke Drive estate, received the £100 donation, enabling them to purchase brand-new books for the school library and help foster a love of reading amongst pupils.

To mark the occasion, Nicola Bailey, Liaison Officer at Lovell, which is Compendium Living’s construction partner, visited the school to hand over the tokens.

Miss Burgess, Deputy Head at Bishop Alexander L.E.A.D. Academy, said: “Thank you to Compendium Living for helping us to buy more books for our children. It means a lot to be supported by a local business with a focus on ensuring students have more access to high quality texts.”

World Book Day is a charity event aiming to inspire young people to pick up reading as a hobby and enjoy the life-long benefits of reading for fun. The charity works to make books easily accessible for all children, regardless of background.

The Yorke Drive Regeneration Project will be delivered by Compendium Living for Newark and Sherwood District Council. The large-scale scheme is set to be developed over several phases and include 207 high-quality new homes, as well as a brand-new sports pavilion and enhanced playing fields.
