Diet products, half-eaten chocolate & second hand jewellery amongst worst end of term gifts given to teachers
As the school year draws to a close, parents across the UK are likely preparing to show their appreciation with end-of-year gifts for teachers. But what do teachers actually think of what they receive? New research reveals the gifts that hit the right note – and the ones best left on the shelf, or cupboard!
According to a new survey by Moonpig*, one in two teachers admit to receiving gifts they didn’t like including used make-up and out of date chocolates, with 37% of those surveyed admitting they have even re-gifted pupils’ presents at least once as a result.
Some of the worst gifts teachers have received included ‘Slim Fast’, second-hand jewellery, opened chocolates and used handmade candles. Despite this 80% agreed that end of term gifts are given with good intention to show the child’s appreciation of their teacher.
So, when it comes to their preferred gift of choice, almost three quarters (72%) said they would be happy with just a card, whereas others stated they would most like to receive useful gifts such as vouchers, chocolates or wine.
To ensure parents stay on track, Moonpig has curated a wide range of thoughtful personalised gifts, from their favourite tipple to experiences like no other, luxurious home scents and a wide range of Thank You Teacher cards to choose from.
A spokesperson for Moonpig commented: “Teachers go above and beyond every day, and end-of-year gifts are a great way to show our appreciation. We have curated a selection of some of our best gifts that we’re sure won’t disappoint, so whether you want to make a grand gesture or even a small thoughtful token of thanks we’ve certainly got something that will help you score top points in class.”
Interestingly, less than 10% of the class give their teacher a gift, with the end of the school term the most popular time for students to show their appreciation, and despite all of their thoughts on the gifts they receive 1 in 4 would be genuinely disappointed if they stopped receiving them altogether.
