Don’t get caught out: London and south east businesses advised to ensure transport compliance

There are almost 43,000 goods vehicles licenced across the South Eastern and Metropolitan Traffic Area, which includes London and the south east of England. Organisations operating vans or HGVs across the region are being encouraged to stay informed about current regulations to avoid penalties and maintain safe, legally compliant fleets. To help with this, Transport Manager 2025, Logistics UK’s highly respected national conference series for transport managers, takes place at the Renaissance Hotel Heathrow, London on Wednesday 12 November, to provide all the information and advice on upcoming legislation that busy transport managers – who are legally required to keep their professional knowledge up to date and ensure their operations comply with the law – need.

The conference includes a line-up of expert speakers, including an opportunity to hear direct from Sarah Bell, Traffic Commissioner for London and the South East of England, who will talk about the Traffic Commissioners’ priorities for the year ahead and how to avoid non-compliance.

The one-day conference will also include a legislative round-up and compliance update; a session ‘One incident, three regulators: compliance on trial’ with transport lawyers Weightmans; a session on best practice in preventative maintenance from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and the Logistics UK VIS team; updates from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA); an interactive session on the future of road regulation; ‘Shifting gears to improve driver health and road safety: The SHIFT programme’ with representatives from Loughborough University and the Leicester Diabetes Centre; and crime and theft in commercial transport with the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS).

Kevin Green, Logistics UK’s Acting Chief Executive, said: “We are looking forward to visiting the south east during our series of conferences taking place around the UK this autumn, especially as operators in this area face particular challenges delivering in London. The event will enable busy transport managers to stay up to date with ever-changing legislation, good practice advice and the latest industry developments, all delivered in a packed one-day programme. In particular we are delighted to welcome the Traffic Commissioner and the main industry agencies to this event, giving delegates a unique opportunity to talk to those who regulate the industry.”
