Get involved with capturing the rain in Notting Dale & North Kensington to help tackle surface water flooding and help make your street more flood prepared!

Our Rainwater, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) and the Great London Authority (GLA) are teaming up to bring an exciting project to your community, and we need your help!
What will this project involve?
This project has some big goals; and we want the local community involved every step of the way! Here are some of the aims:
Choose the best rain capture devices (like water butts or rain planters) to make the most impact to surface water flooding in your area.
Install up to 50 free rain tanks in Notting Dale and North Kensington homes* – more information about device types coming soon.
Increase local awareness about surface water flooding, slowing the flow and rainwater management.
Monitor the devices to understand their impact, every time it rains.
Share the voices and stories of locals who experienced flooding, as well as ways of creating a more flood prepared future.
Create a blueprint, so successes can be brought forwards into other similar projects.
Why is this happening?
Notting Dale and North Kensington experienced serious flooding in July 2021, impacting 76 streets, over 500 properties, and public buildings such as schools and youth centres. This impacted the well-being of residents and caused hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage.

By taking part in this project, you are helping shape Kensington and Chelsea towards a more flood-prepared future.

As part of the Future Neighbourhoods Programme, RBKC has been awarded funding by the GLA to deliver targeted sustainable drainage (SuDS) interventions, which includes water butts and rainplanters.

Of course, this project is just one piece of a puzzle – there is no single solution. There are other ongoing and upcoming initiatives in place that will help to reduce the chances of surface water flooding.
