For a few fleeting weeks each spring, Japan turns a soft shade of pink as cherry blossom sweeps across the country. This season, Sticks’n’Sushi brings a taste of sakura to its restaurants in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Glasgow with blossom-inspired dishes, cocktails and striking floral installations that capture the beauty of Japan’s most celebrated time of year.
Available from 26th March – 26th April, limited edition sakura specials include the perfectly pink Sakura Maki, complete with soy-cured salmon, smoked cheese, cucumber, sakura rice, avocado, miso aioli, lumpfish roe and shiso; and the indulgent Sakurakissu, a dark chocolate, cherry foam and umeshu compote served with vanilla ice cream, amber cookie and shiso.
A selection of special cocktails further captures the spirit of the season. The Sakura Martini blends Akashi Tai Tokubetsu Honjozo, Ukiyo vodka, sakura tea, coconut cream, lychee and yuzu juice; while the Sakura Spritz combines Akashi Tai Yuzushu, St-Germain, KAY Sake and Earl Grey with tonic water. A non-alcoholic serve features Everleaf Mountain, lychee and yuzu juice with coconut and miso cream completes the line-up.
Inside the restaurants, striking ikebana-inspired floral installations made entirely from paper origami will take centre stage. Representing the national flowers of the countries where Sticks’n’Sushi has grown and flourished, the displays feature sakura to honour Japan and daisies to nod to the group’s Danish heritage, with hibiscus adding vibrant splashes of colour.
Sakura specials will be available, from 26th March until 26th April at all 16 Sticks’n’Sushi locations: Wimbledon, Covent Garden, Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Victoria, King’s Road, Soho, White City, Shoreditch, Kingston, Oxford, Cambridge, Richmond, Islington, Battersea and Glasgow.
