There were smiles and celebrations at Vanguard School today as Year 11 students received their GCSE results, marking an important milestone after months of hard work, determination and preparation.
Vanguard School is a special school in Lambeth supporting autistic children and young people. Part of the Liberty Academy Trust, the school provides an individualised education designed around each young person’s strengths, needs and aspirations, supporting them to develop academically, socially and personally.
For the Year 11 cohort, today’s results are a reflection of the commitment they have shown to their studies, with students working towards a range of qualifications across a focused programme of subjects. The results also represent the confidence, resilience and independence they have developed during their time at Vanguard.
Students are now looking ahead to their next steps, with destinations including further education, college, training and other post-16 pathways.
Among those celebrating today are:
Marc G, who has achieved a 6 in Art and is now moving on to study 3d Design at Morley College
Karlissa, who has now moved onto the London Technical Hair & Beauty College in Liverpool Street
Oliver G who has achieved three separate GCSEs in Science at grade 5 or above and is over the moon!
Llewellyn P, who achieved the grades he needs, including a 6 in Citizenship and Physics, to move on to study Science at Kingston College
The school is also celebrating the wider progress made by its young people throughout the year, with staff recognising the individual achievements behind the results.
Rachael Clements, Headteacher at Vanguard School, said:
“We are incredibly proud of our students and everything they have achieved. Every young person has their own strengths, ambitions and journey, and today is a chance to celebrate the progress they have made.
“GCSE results are an important milestone, but they only tell part of the story. We have seen our students develop in confidence, independence and resilience, as well as making academic progress, and it has been wonderful to see them celebrating today.
“I’d like to thank our staff team and families for the support they have given our young people throughout the year. We’re excited to see what comes next for our students and wish them every success in the next stage of their journey.”
Nic Crossley, CEO of Liberty Academy Trust, added:
“Congratulations to all the students at Vanguard School on their achievements. We know that every young person’s path through education is different, which makes it particularly rewarding to see students celebrating their individual successes today.
“These results reflect the hard work of our students, as well as the dedication of staff and the support of families. We are incredibly proud of the young people at Vanguard and wish them all the very best as they take their next steps.”
