Junsei Brings Izakaya Nights to Marylebone with DJ Sets, New Menus, Desserts & Drinks

Junsei, Marylebone’s pioneering yakitori bar, has launched DJ Nights every Thursday and Friday, making the most of its late licence to recreate the vibrant after-dark atmosphere of Japan’s traditional Izakayas. Guests can now enjoy soulful food, curated vinyl, and cocktails in a setting that lingers well into the night.

DJ Nights: Yakitori Meets Vinyl
On Thursday and Friday evenings, Junsei transforms into a lively listening bar. Diners settle in for skewers grilled over Binchōtan charcoal, cocktails infused with Japanese flavours, and DJ sets that span Japanese City Pop to soulful grooves. The late-night licence means evenings flow effortlessly, echoing the communal energy of Japan’s after-work Izakayas.

Dinner Menu: Skewers & Small Plates
At the heart of Junsei’s offering is its yakitori kushiyaki omakase, featuring over 20 chicken skewers cooked nose-to-tail, alongside seasonal vegetable and specialty skewers. Small plates designed for sharing include dishes such as Wagyu beef rib cap, crab korokke topped with caviar, flame-seared salmon warayaki, and diver scallops with shoyu butter. Claypot donabe rice, simmered to order, anchors the experience in true communal style.

Late-Night Menu: Izakaya Comforts
Exclusively available during DJ Nights, the late-night menu offers comforting Izakaya-style dishes, from chicken nanban with tartare mayo to crispy chicken skin chips and soboro don with minced chicken, egg yolk and shichimi. These dishes are crafted to complement cocktails and vinyl, encouraging guests to settle in for the evening.

Desserts: Sweet Finishes
To close, desserts provide a balance of freshness and indulgence. Seasonal granita with fruit and citrus offers a light finale, while milk purin with kokuto sugar and grilled fruit with brown sugar ice cream bring a richer note to the night.

Drinks: Spotlight on Japanese Spirits
Junsei’s drinks menu has been designed to complement its electric atmosphere. While the bar offers a carefully curated selection of wines, beers, and cocktails, the real focus lies in Japanese spirits. Guests are encouraged to explore the depth and variety of sake, shochu, and Japanese wines, which pair beautifully with grilled skewers and small plates. The cocktail menu features thoughtful creations that highlight Japanese ingredients. The result is a drinks programme that champions authenticity and invites guests to experience the richness of Japan’s drinking culture.
