The Walmer Castle is reviving a true Dickensian classic set to excite oyster lovers

To mark British Pie Week (2nd – 9th March), The Walmer Castle – the iconic Notting Hill pub on Ledbury Road – is reviving a true Dickensian classic set to excite oyster lovers.

For one week only, the kitchen will be serving a limited-edition Beef Shin & Oyster Pie, inspired by a Victorian-era pairing once commonplace in London, when oysters were abundant and often combined with slow-cooked beef – a combination frequently referenced in the novels of Charles Dickens.

The Walmer Castle’s contemporary interpretation champions exceptional British produce: richly braised County Wexford beef shin layered with Colchester oysters, encased in golden pastry. It is served with thyme mash and a deeply savoury beef and oyster gravy, presented in an oyster shell on the side. Each pie is finished with a crisp deep-fried oyster for added indulgence.

The Beef Shin and Oyster pie is £27.50 and will be available all week (2nd to 9th March).
